Abstract

Abstract: Subtitles play a crucial role in developing listening skills, particularly for language learners. By synchronizing text with audio, subtitles offer learners an accessible way to improve comprehension, vocabulary acquisition, and auditory processing. Research shows that subtitles engage multiple senses, fostering active listening, memory retention, and better recognition of accents, intonation, and sentence structure. They are adaptable to various learning levels, from beginners using subtitles in their native language to advanced learners engaging with subtitles in the target language. However, experts recommend reducing reliance on subtitles over time to encourage independent listening skills.
